Monthly concert October 2025

Dear Music Rasikas,

SMC would like to invite you with family and friends to our Monthly Concert to be held on Saturday 25th October 2025 at the Dundas Community Centre (Mian hall), 21 Sturt Street, Telopea.

This month is instrumental special.

4.45pm to 5.45pmVeena concert by Kum. Gayathri Balaji, accompanied by Chi. Harish Ravindran on the Mrudangam

6pm to 8pmViolin concert by Sri. Balaji Jagannadhan, supported by Kum. Nethra Srinivasan on the Violin and accompanied  by Chi. Sriman Nadamuni on the Mrudangam and Chi. Prahlad Iyer on the Kanjira.

Artiste Profiles:

Kum. Gayathri Balaji


Gayathri Balaji began learning Carnatic music at the age of 5 under the tutelage of Srimathi Sangeetha Ayyar. In addition to Carnatic vocal, she also has a passion for instrumental Carnatic music, and learns veena from Dr. Malathi Nagarajan. Gayathri completed her Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws degrees at UNSW

Sri. Balaji Jagannadhan


Balaji Jagannadhan learnt vocal and instrumental Carnatic music from Bangalore Smt R. Thangammal, herself a disciple of Vidwan Sri R R Keshavamurthy. Balaji hails from the steel city of Jamshedpur, India, and is a frequent performer at Carnatic forums in Sydney and Brisbane. He is a enthusiast of both schools of music Carnatic and Hindustani. He has also contributed to the musical choreography for a few classical dance recitals.

Sri. Harish Gopikan Ravindran


Harish initiated the art of mridangam at young age under the tutelage of Dr. Suresh Ramachandra in Auckland. He has been fortunate to pursue extensive training and has become a proud disciple of Vidwan Sri. Thanjavur K. Murugaboopathi of Chennai. He had his Mridangam Arangetram in Sydney in 2017, alongside his sister Vishni on Veena, and was accompanied by eminent vidwans from Chennai. Harish is a regular performer in Sydney for carnatic concerts and bharathanatyam repertoires and has notably accompanied concerts overseas at prestigious sabhas and venues in Chennai, London, San Francisco and Auckland. Harish is also blessed to have accompanied many visiting artistes from Chennai. 

Chi. Sriman Nadamuni


Sriman Nadamuni – Sriman has had a great passion for music and percussion since the tender age of 4. He was initiated into Carnatic music by his mother Smt Gayathri Srinivasan and currently is under the tutelage of Sri Krishna Ramarathinam. He was an active participant at his School's Senior Music Choir and represented it as part of the Music Festival every year. Sriman learns Mrudangam from Kalaimamani Vidwan Sri Nellai A Ballaji from India. Sriman has actively participated in many music forums in Australia both on vocal and as mridangam accompaniment. He also has a great passion for theatres and has been an active participant in the Sydney Nadaga Priya theatre group.  Sriman is currently purusing his Bachelor of Business degree at Macquarie University.

 

Sri. Prahlad Suresh Iyer


Prahlad Suresh Iyer, started learning Mridangam under the tutelage of Shri. Perunna Harikumar at the tender age of 5 in Kuwait. During his time in Chennai for higher secondary education, he was extremely fortunate to learn the Mridangam under the legendary maestro, Mridangam Vidhwan “Padma Shri” Dr. T.K. Murthy (who is also the guru of Shri Perunna Harikumar). He pursued his Master of Teaching from Macquarie Uni and is a High school teacher at Willoughby Girls High School. In addition to the Mridangam, he also plays the Ghatam, Kanjira and Tabla, and is a versatile artist. Prahlad is also extremely passionate of cricket and is pursuing the sport professionally in Sydney. His passion for teaching goes beyond the traditional classroom and conducts Mridangam classes and is also a cricket coach.
