SMC Monthly concert August 2024
Dear Music Rasikas,
SMC would like to invite you with family and friends to our Monthly concert to be held on Sunday 1st September 2024 at the Dundas Community centre, 21 Sturt street, Telpoea.
8.45am to 9.45am: Keyboard duet by Adithya Nagaraj and Akash Ramanathan, accompanied by Aditya Vishwanathan on Mrudangam and Sayeesh Srinivasan on Kanjira
10am to 12 noon: Vocal concert by Smt. Sangeetha Ayyar, accompanied by Agalya Pavalan on violin, Sri.Sivakumar Sethupathi on Mrudangam and Santhosh Jaishankar on Kanjira
Artiste Profiles:
Chi. Akash Ramanathan
Smt. Sangeetha Ayyar
Sangeetha is the daughter and disciple of the late Sri Karaikudi S. Kannan, an All India Radio artist from Andhra Pradesh. She also had advanced lessons in Chennai from Smt Suguna Purushothaman and Smt Meera Nathan in India and from Smt Hemalatha Ganesan, Smt Chitra Krishnamurthy and Smt Uma Ayyar in Sydney. She has won prizes for music during her college days in India. Smt Sangeetha has performed extensively over the last fifteen years and had the opportunity to sing at the Asian Festival of Music and Dance at the Sydney Opera House and at the National Multicultural Festival in Canberra. Sangeetha has given concerts across Australia, in USA and during the Chennai music season. She has sung for many dance performances and has set the music for several dance items. She teaches music to a number of students in Western Sydney.
Kum. Agalya Pavalan
Agalya Pavalan is a Year 12 student at Baulkham Hills High School. Her first and main musical discipline is the Carnatic style Violin, which she has been learning for over ten years under the tutelage of Sri Kranthi Kiran Mudigonda. Agalya also learns Carnatic Vocals from Smt. Lakshmi Kumaraguruparan. She trains Western Piano under the guidance of Mr Joseph Blackman. Outside of the musical field, Agalya has learnt Bharatanatyam for over 5 years with Smt Pathmaranjini Umashankar. She has a keen interest and pursues martial arts with a passion and has a Black belt in Taekwondo
Chi. Adithya Viswanathan
Sri Aditya Viswanathan has learnt mrudangam for over 9 years from Shri R. Suthanthiraraj. He developed his skills further under the guidance of Shri Bala Shankar and Shri Melakaveri K. Balaji. Aditya considers himself fortunate to have trained under Late Shri P.S. Parameshwaran (Mumbai), a direct disciple of the late Shri Palghat Mani Iyer. From 2014 Aditya is receiving advance training from Sri Sivakumar Sethupathy. He has learnt vocal music from Smt. Prema Anandakrishnan and enjoys playing the tabla and the guitar. He is passionate about sports and plays cricket and soccer. He is pursuing his education in Aeronautical (Space) Engineering at the University of Sydney.
Sri. Sivakumar Sethupathi
Siva had his training in mridangam under Guru Sri T.S. Janakiraman, a disciple of Sri Palani Subramania Pillai. He was a recipient of music scholarship awarded by the Centre For Cultural Resources and Training, Government of India. He is a sought-after mridangam artiste for Carnatic music programs, Bharatanatyam recitals and Sampradaya Bhajans in Australia. He has accompanied several leading artistes from India. Siva is a founding member of Sydney Bhajan Mandali.
Sri. Sayeesh Srinivasan
Sayeesh is a Year-11 student from Sydney Technical High School. Sayeesh has been learning the art of mridangam since the age of nine, under the sterling guidance of Sri. Sivakumar Sethupathi. He has been performing in Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana, Sri Purandara Aradhana and the main Hindu temples around Sydney.
Sayeesh is also a student at Sydney Sanskrit School & School of Vedic Sciences (Aust) Inc and has been awarded Minister's Commendable Excellence in Student Achievement in 2021.
He also holds youth membership in Australian Red Cross, Amnesty International Australia and a trained first-aid responder at St John Ambulance Australia (NSW). Sayeesh frequently participates in all social and other community events being organised by local organisations.
